The NGN is a new high-speed shared network that the ICSD is implementing for the State of Hawaii with its partners GTE Hawaiian Tel (now Verizon-Hawaii) and Cisco Systems. It is a gigabit backbone using IP/Ethernet and will be the foundation for the future development of the State’s intranet. The NGN will connect all state buildings on all islands. It will provide any-to-any connectivity and will provide access to shared resources such as the Internet, applications, and servers. ICSD’s Telecommunication Services Branch is implementing the first phase of hardware installations in key buildings in the downtown civic center.
